Our Success Is Student Success

Read what parents and families say about the work of ADSG:

The AR Dyslexia Support Group was invaluable to me when my first child was characterized as severely dyslexic and I was thrown into a realm of unfamiliar territory – rules, procedures and meetings with the school. I was blessed to have an advocate call me and work through my asks from the school, one of which was an OG program and what those acceptable programs included…The wealth of knowledge and support this group offers is, in part, how he was capable of recently making a 33 on his reading ACT— coming from behind behind 3 grade levels as a 5th grader. He already has scholarship opportunities being offered, and we are forever grateful for the support and knowledge.

The people in this group (Arkansas Dyslexia Support Group) have been a constant means of support. They’ve been to parent teacher meetings, school board meetings, and have met with us one on one to ensure that we had the help we needed to get our children the help they needed!

The continuance of support and advocacy for children you have never met …blows me away. You’re a light in the darkness. Thank you for helping me navigate and learn the process of an IEP. Thank you for being a voice for children who may not have one, and helping parents magnify theirs. And thank you for your continued help through 2 1/2 years of advocating for proper IEP accommodations(and everything in between). You help lift weight off of already heavy shoulders. THANK YOU!!

Audie has been such a valuable resource and blessing to my child and our family. She has sat alongside of us in multiple due processes and meetings. She fought hard to get my son testing and resources to identify his struggles and get the appropriate services. We could never thank her enough!

Tasheena N.

I can’t express how grateful I am for the incredible support and guidance we received from Audie during our child’s IEP process. Her expertise and dedication were instrumental in identifying that Child Find was in order and pursuing a due process hearing. Thanks to her unwavering advocacy, our child now receives the appropriate services he needs. We will forever be thankful for her time and expertise!

Tessa D.

You stood up for my child when I didn’t know how to. Because of you Audie, my son has concessions that allow him to be successful in school and feel confident in his abilities as a student.

You (Audie) attended a meeting with us…You helped them see my son wasn’t lazy, he was lost in the words.

Since joining this group I have asked for, and received, not only emotional support and advice for myself as a parent, but also resources, support, and advice as a teacher. In the beginning of our journey this group was invaluable to myself and my son. We were put in touch with an interventionist, an educational examiner, an advocate, and most importantly a community of like-minded adults whose only focus was helping students succeed and reach their full potential….. and all COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE!! Truly an amazing group of people!

Audie helped get my girl the help she needed and IEP in place. School has been a smoother

process since Audie helped get her the modifications she needed and intervention in place.

This group has helped me in many ways in knowing what to ask for to help my child.Thank you to all the advocates who give their time, you are true life changers

Audie was instrumental in helping me navigate through the trials of getting both my son and my nephew the help and resources they needed to be successful and learn how to read. With her assistance, my son is now reading on grade-level and has tested out of intervention. He is blooming.

You gave us hope for our child. You attended many meetings, fought to get the school to follow the law as well as our son’s IEP. You listened and fought for us when we didn’t know our rights.

Advocates helped me say the magic words to get my son the help he needed and deserved. They gave me the strength to fight the system and win. Now my kid who in third grade was counting how many more years he had to go to school is a year away from finishing college.

The help we have received from Audie has been crucial to my son moving through the school system. She stepped up and helped when we didn’t know how. Our meetings went from 1 responsibility teacher to a room filled with educators. She has held them accountable for their part! I don’t know where my son would be without her! We can’t thank you enough!

When the school was allowing my 12 year old daughter to fail their so-called reading intervention 39 times telling me they had nothing else to offer her, this group came to a meeting and within 24 hours the district had a qualified dyslexia interventionist to finally teach her to read! She met with her daily for 2 years during the school day and her day camp during the summers. This group saved her! She is now taking college classes and wants to be an algebra teacher.

Kenberlee G.

Audie, you all came to a few meetings. My son couldn’t read but at K-1st level. Severe dyslexia, and dysgraphia. We got testing done outside of the school district and now have an interventionist doing 5 days a week, online, one on one classes with Take Flight. We love the teacher and the district is paying for this. There is so much more I could write. So thankful for all of the ones that went to the meetings online during Covid. He is now reading more than he ever has. And the district is having to listen

Audie has been a bright light in my daughter’s life. She attended countless meetings and provided guidance to ensure her accommodations were put in place and utilized. My daughter has graduated high school and now attends college. She and Audie put in a lot of hard work to get her there!

Audie Alumbaugh and Theresa Caldwell are magnificent. They helped my granddaughter receive online reading instruction. This helped her improve her reading from three levels below her grade level to two grade levels above. They have helped in so many ways. They have an unsurpassed love for children.

Audie and this group are priceless! When I was just figuring out that my daughter was dyslexic, Audie was there front and center for my daughter and me! I remember sitting in our first meeting to get a temporary IEP and the words were so fluent for Audie. She knew more about the laws and services that were available to my child than the school knew. Everything sounded like a foreign language to me. Truthfully I was intimidated and overwhelmed by the laws and information that was being mentioned. I had no clue! Thank God I had Audie on my side. She has done so much for my child and countless others! She is a blessing to so many people!

Audie Alumbaugh advocates for my first grader who is ADHD. Last October she attended the first meeting with me at the school and also attended the end of the year meeting. She is responsible for getting him an IEP. She fights hard for all kids and she loves just as hard. In her words, “I’m going to fight like I’m the third monkey trying to get on Noah’s ark. “ My child will never get lost in the system with her as his advocate and for that I’m thankful. Thank you Audie for standing up and fighting for these children.

I fought for nearly a decade to get my child the help he needed. Thanks to Audie and AR Dyslexia Support Group, we found outside evaluators that gave us the diagnosis my son desperately needed. With their help, we were able to show the school what they missed and were able to get him the help I had been fighting for for so long. Thank you!

Melody H.

I have received so much advice. Arrangements were made for testing for my child, a therapist was even located for my child. Without the help we would have staggered around for way too long! Thank you !

Our family is SO thankful for Audie, her championing for children’s education, and her fight to keep the playing field level and fair. Audie’s knowledge is priceless and her dedication to kids she’s never met is unwavering. The AR Dyslexia Support Group (ADSG) is a valuable asset to all parents struggling to help their child in the education system. It’s a place where parents can support each other in good times and bad. I have learned myriad of accommodations, rules, and regs from the parents in this support group. The group and it’s members are an absolute blessing to each other and our kids.

I am not sure how she does it all everyday! Audie is always there with advice, support, and encouragement! She got us through the IEP process and provides invaluable advice as we continue to navigate our 504.
